KOLKATA: An interesting and exciting new golf tour is coming up in India very soon. It is called the National Parent-Child Golf Tour 2021 in which parents and children will be allowed to form teams of two and participate. There is also the option of grandparents partnering grandchildren.
Protouch Sports and My Golf Tours have collaborated to come up with this initiative.
The Tour will start in April and the organizers are aiming to have six to eight meets before hosting a finale.
Four events have already been finalized with the first one at the Tollygunge Club in Kolkata on April 17. The next one will be in New Delhi on September 24 followed by Pune on October 1 and Bengaluru on October 22.
There will be five categories: male, female, mixed, one non-golfer and nine-hole. All will be one-day events played over 18 holes apart from the final category which will be competed over nine holes.
The tournaments will be played in Scramble format in which the two players will tee off together and then get to decide the better-placed ball and both hit their second shots from that position. It will continue in the same way till the putt is made.
Veteran golfer and coach Indrajit Bhalotia, who is also the director of Protouch Sports, informed that there have been one-off parent-child meets before but this is the first time in India that this will be a proper Tour and these will also be open meets.
“This will be a Tour where relationships will be cherished,” said Bhalotia.
Meanwhile, the organizers are also coming up with another Tour: Asian Long Drive Tour. Participants will get to hit six shots in two minutes and the target will be to hit as far as possible but within a given width.
Events are being planned in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal apart from India. The Tollygunge Club will host the first event on March 15. “This is the first of its kind in Asia,” added Bhalotia.
